Staying healthy and happy!

I have been so busy lately! I got my job that I have been working towards for months! I'm a TA, on my way to becoming a teacher! I've also started seriously searching for my house, and am still trying to maintain friendships. This week, especially, has been crazy! But I have felt great today! It is important to stay active in order to stay healthy and happy.

With our constantly busy lives, it is even more important to be healthy. We are just beginning our lives as adults! Our bodies are all we'll have for the rest of our lives! I'm going to do research and hopefully help everyone stay healthy and happy!

There are of course the obvious ones:
  1. Don't smoke! Or quit soon!
  2. Avoid the sun. See your dermatologist regularly to check your skin.
  3. Exercise.
  4. Eat healthy.
Eat healthy
This doesn't necessarily mean cutting our all red meats and all sweets. It means portion control. I once hear a theory in which everyone has a preset ideal weight. Your body calculates caloric and nutritional intake and this causes your appetite and cravings. According to this theory, only eating when you are hungry and eating what you crave is the bottom line in this theory.
But it is easier to eat healthy when you cook yourself rather than use the drive through or frozen food section. These preservatives are not healthy, instead, cook casseroles and keep healthier snacks around. Bring your lunch to work to save money as well. This can allow for customization as well!
Some great foods to keep around: nuts (make your own chex mix with m&ms!), apples and carrots last a long time, but be careful because bananas and strawberries spoil quickly. Granola in yogurt is great, as well as salads (raspberry vinaigrette and mixed greens are amazing!)

Exercise
Now is the best time to start an exercise program. Just like it is easier to teach a puppy new tricks, it is easier for our young bodies to get used to regular exercise. This can be as simple as giving a friend a call and going for a 20 minute walk around your neighborhood. Work your way up. Just walking will help tone your body, and it will give you energy!

Friendships:
Having good friends is important. Choose your friends wisely, this is a great time to do it as you figure out who you are and begin your life. Choose your friends based on your likes and dislikes, your pet peeves, and most importantly, if they are a good person. This simply means, it's not the best idea to befriend someone who is destructive to him or herself or to others, and who stands for the same things as you. Realize who you want to be and base your friends off of this.
But you also have to be a good friend. I have recently posted in regards to being a good friend. But to summarize, call regularly, complain when necessary, and talk things out. But always have a smile, a hug and an excitement whenever you see them.
